How Fact Sheets, Selfies, Memes, and Podcasts Can Transform Assessments in the Generative AI Age

Large language models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Llama have become powerful tools that can boost productivity and learning support, but they also undermine academic integrity by making it easier for students to submit unoriginal or automated work. How can we keep assessments purposeful, relevant, and a reflection of genuine student understanding? One answer is to adopt methods that enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in ways that connect to the real world, to harness their creativity and originality, and to showcase their interests and personalities. I will show how fact sheets, selfies and memes, and podcasts can transform course assessments to better gauge true understanding while providing for creativity and application of knowledge.
