I love family trips. Whether it’s a summer or winter getaway or a long weekend during the school year, travel often yields opportunities for new discoveries and unparalleled critical thinking. You may think I mean the thrill of learning about or experiencing new places. While that does happen, I’m referring to what the affordance of time together provides. Spending time together in novel situations; having long transits in cars, planes, or trains; and the waiting inherent to travel all provide opportunities to talk. When we talk, we often nerd out, and it’s not too long before the questions start flowing.
