Back when I was an undergraduate, students were thought to drop out of college because either they failed to take it seriously or couldn’t handle the academic rigor. But now higher education recognizes that many students fail due to lack of self-regulated learning skills. These skills relate to knowing how to learn and how to self-manage, both of which can be taught as independent tutorials or integrated into an academic course. Two free online resources provide examples of each method that instructors can use to help students succeed in their courses and beyond.
