Planning for Success in Remote, Hybrid, and Online Classes: A Handout for Students

I advise a fraternity on my campus, and in early August, several of the officers came to me concerned about how to keep students on track academically this year. Their main worry was most students’ lack of interest in a fully online educational experience. The students consistently reported that they’d found the spring shift to remote and hybrid learning to be, at the very least, challenging. And this fall many of them have found themselves in exactly the same situation with all online courses—a situation that may continue next spring. I suspect those concerns are shared by students around the country. I’ve been teaching online and hybrid courses for 15 years, and my students have offered some very helpful advice about learning successfully in that modality. I decided to share some of their insights in handout that could be posted online or given out. Feel free to share it with your students. If you need to adapt it, that’s fine too.
