		<description>Rather than use a seating chart, I will, when I take roll at the start of a course, jot down an identifying characteristic beside the student&#039;s name: &quot;curly hair,&quot; &quot;green glasses,&quot; etc. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Students appreciate it when instructors are making the effort to learn their names. For that reason, I&#039;m not shy about saying, &quot;Help me with your name, please?&quot; until I get it right. It shows them I&#039;m interested in knowing them as individuals.</description>
