I've been a student for SO many years, I'd say a little anxiety BEFORE an exam is good so you can focus more and study harder. But anxiety DURING an exam can do you more harm than good, since it can make your mind block out, information overload can kick in (you thinking of all the things you reviewed all at the same time), lack of focus, cold clammy skin, and so forth, depending on the severity of your anxiety. But I guess the key to it is to be sure you're ready and study hard before an exam, so no worries can bother you when the big day comes.

Hello:

I am writing a study guide for a school district in Westchester county, New York. I am wondering if I can quote your statistics in the guide?

Sincerely,

B. Ann Levine, Ph.D.
