Though I like this idea in theory, I envision students coming to my office hours simply to earn points, with nothing substantial to discuss or contribute. I teach pre-professional students, who are very grade driven.

In addition, it seems one would have to develop a policy regarding what counts and what does not count for points. Would this defeat the purpose? Would the conversations become contrived, rather than genuine? I would feel like I'm constantly judging what the students are saying, rather than simply getting to know them and discussing the material.
